Start Time:
You should be aware that the Long distance wave will be starting at 8.45am.  This means immediately after the 8.15am full event briefing (so approx. 8.30am) you will assemble on the beach and the piper will pipe you towards your swim start.  You will not be able to take part in the 'Group Warm Up'.  Please be prompt and walk at a brisk pace as it's critical your wave goes off in a timely fashion so as to allow the remaining waves and the rest of the day to run on time.  All Long Distance participants will have GOLD bib numbers AND swim caps.

Course Information

Swim Course:  You will complete a 750m rectangular swim course  (weather dependent on direction)  to start at the GOLD FLAG. Course Map at bottom of this email.

Bike Course: You will complete an 18km course that consists of TWO different laps.

The first lap is 6km out, that sees you turning at the farthest GREEN Turn Flag, (by Sandpiper Crt), returning to the roundabout by the Kapiti Boat Club, where you will turn and retrace back again to the GREEN Turn Flag near Sandpiper Court  before returning 6km to event transition.
There is a Stop/Go near the Tui Rd/Matatua Rd intersection (near transition) where you MAY be required to stop for traffic.
You MUST obey our marshalls and the traffic management staff at all times.

Run Course: You will complete a 5km run consisting of ONE out and back lap.
Yours is the furthermost turn around a GOLD FLAG (there are two other turns before yours - Short distance and Medium distance events).
Note there is a drink station AND toilet at the Short Distance turn so you will pass that twice during your run.
Finishing at Marine gardens, you do not re enter the transition area at the completion of your run.
There is a Stop/Go on Alexander Rd operating on both on outward and return legs, where you MAY be required to stop for traffic.
You MUST obey our marshalls and the traffic management staff at all times.

Duathletes:  You will start simultaneously with the Long Distance swim wave at 8.45am,  beginning with an approx. 400m run up and back from transition up to the end of Garden road around a cone and GREEN Turn Flag then return, where you will transition onto your bike for the Bike course described above.

Teams: You will rack in the team bike rack.  You must swap the ankle transponder from team member to team member.  Team members may wait by the bike rack ready to tag.

Cut off: In the interests of keeping the day on track for all participants, at 11am (2hrs15 post start time) at the time we indicated all Long Distance entrants should have been able to complete the Long event, if you have not reached the run turn around (half way point - 2.5km) you will be turned around to make your way back to the finish line. You will still be able to cross the finish line.

We hope you understand that we have to put this measure in place, to avoid any lengthy delays to prize giving and road closures.
